I just got home from the JT concert in Lexington, KY. Before the show my son said “No way he does Purple Rain.” Well, lo and behold, he sang and played a couple of verses of Purple Rain as a lead-in to Shower the People. I’ve seen James over a dozen times since first seeing him in 1971 and this was by far the biggest surprise of any show I’ve attended. Is it the ultimate live rarity? Maybe. Just sorry I didn’t at least record it on my phone! Guess I’ll check Youtube tomorrow morning!
      Best wishes to all.

Wow, how amazing. Lucky you and the Lexington crowd! Let us know if you track it down won’t you?

That’s really cool. He mentioned Prince before he broke into You’ve Got A Friend when he was in Chattanooga, but no “Purple Rain”.

I’d love to hear that as well.

There was a purple light shining on the curtain when James talked about Prince in Chattanooga, and the woman sitting next to me asked me if I thought that was because of Prince. Apparently so,judging by this tribute. There is a reason why some become famous. James is living proof. He has a heart of GOLD.
