Any comments from the televised show last night? I have a few. You have to come to the understanding that NO cover will ever be as great as what James does himself with his songs. With that in mind, I enjoyed hearing them. I wished the mics weren’t being drowned out by the music at times, but I was glued to it all.Great show.
Music these days doesn’t entertain me the way it did in the 70s, unless its a performer from that era. So it was refreshing to be entertained by James’s music,as well as the Eagles. As someone who dabbles in piano, with just 3 years of lessons as a child,it’s always fascinating to watch someone who can actually play the greats, as Martha can.(sorry, can’t remember her last name!)
The one,most hilarious and awkward part of the show was watching Gayle King. If anyone else ever saw clips of her road trip with Oprah, you’ll remember the woman can’t carry a tune.She sings off key,and it used to drive Oprah nuts. So I see the Obamas sitting up with the honorees,and behind them, there’s Gayle King. More than once, Gayle was swaying to the music and singing along, and I thought,”OH NO!!!!”…it was funny.
I believe you should sing regardless, it’s your God given voice,no matter what it sounds like. But some voices were meant to be contained to the shower!
I did have a question. When introducing Sheryl Crow,the announcer mentioned James’s band “The Section”. I didn’t know they had a name. Did I miss something?
